JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Redshirt sophomore Nick Monile walked it off for North Florida baseball in a 6-5 win over UCF at Harmon Stadium on Tuesday evening.Â
Â
Monile drove in a pair of runs and finished 3-for-5 at the plate. He led off the bottom of the first inning with a base hit before he advanced to second on a wild pitch. Senior Cade Bush pieced a two-out RBI-single down the left field line to put North Florida on the scoreboard first at 1-0.Â
Â
UCF added a run in the top of the second and third inning to command a 2-1 lead. Monile sent a pitch back up the middle for an RBI single that tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning. UCF responded with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning.Â
Â
Faced with two outs, North Florida pieced together a two-run bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game back up at 4-4. Redshirt freshman Carter White singled back up the middle and stole second to place an initial runner in scoring position. Senior Drew Leinenbach drew a walk in the next at-bat before each runner advanced on a wild pitch. With White and Leinenbach in scoring position, freshman Seth Alford singled down the right-field line to plate two runs and tie the game.Â
Â
A bases-loaded walk plated what appeared to be the go-ahead run for the Knights in the top of the ninth. Alford led off the ninth inning with a solo shot over the right-field wall to tie the game at 5-5.
Redshirt junior Tyler Gerteisen drew a walk and then Connor Moore entered the game to pitch run for Gerteisen. Moore stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher before Monile stepped up to bat. With Moore on third, Monile delivered a walk-off single to secure the in-state win. Â
