JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After waiting nearly 45 minutes due to lightning in the area, the University of North Florida received a jolt off the bench from true freshman Jay Bolt who struck for the match-winning goal as the Ospreys defeated Western Illinois on Friday night at Patton Park in the first match of the Mike Gibbs Memorial Tournament.

Leading 1-0, Bolt intercepted a pass from the Leathernecks. The Jacksonville native took the ball from midfield, making a move on a pair of WIU defenders. Bolt found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The freshman netted his first collegiate goal, tapping the ball into the upper left quarter of the goal. The goal proved to be the match-winning goal as the Ospreys posted the 2-1 victory.

Alex Morrell, a 2012 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman selection, picked up where he left off from his rookie season netting the Ospreys' first goal of the 2013 season in the eighth minute of the match. Simen Solstad booted a ball into the box and Morrell was able to get his head on the ball and put it in the back right corner of the net to put UNF in front 1-0.

The score remained 1-0 as the two teams headed into intermission. The score remained 1-0 until the 69th minute when Bolt put North Florida ahead, 2-0.

Western Illinois responded in the 73rd minute. WIU's Diego Lopez launched a shot from 25 yards out into the upper left corner of the goal past a diving goalkeeper to trim the Osprey lead to 2-1.

North Florida finished the match with 11 shots, including eight shots on goal. Western Illinois' goalie Yves Dietrich made six saves on the night, including a crucial sliding stop and a one-handed punch out to keep the match close.

WIU posted eight shots, including four shots on goal. Keeper Brad Sienkiewicz earned the victory on the night, making three stops. The North Florida defense was stout, keeping the Western Illinois offensive attack off balance.

Luis Daniel Camejo led the team with three shots. Camejo and Morrell each posted a pair of shots on goal. Husref Jupic led the Leathernecks with a pair of shots, including a shot on goal.
