North Florida enters the weekend with an 18-9 overall record and a 2-1 mark in Atlantic Sun Conference play. East Tennessee State is 13-8 overall and 3-3 in conference action.
The Ospreys are 11-4 at Harmon Stadium. The Buccaneers are 10-5 at home, but just 3-3 on the road.
The Bucs hold a 12-10 edge in the all-time series. The Ospreys are 7-5 against ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn., but are just 3-6 against the Buccaneers in Jacksonville. ETSU has won the last four games in the series in Jacksonville, but UNF has won the last two games of the series.
Last season, the Ospreys won the series 2-1 against the Buccaneers on the road in Johnson City, Tenn. In the rubber match of the series, North Florida entered the sixth inning trailing 2-1, but the Ospreys broke the game open with a season-high 12 runs, sending 16 people to the plate and nearly batting around twice in the inning. The Ospreys used six hits, six walks by the Buccaneers and two ETSU errors to take control of the game in the sixth. All nine batters in the Osprey lineup reached base in the sixth inning with six different batters recording a hit. Tyler Marincov recorded a two-run homer, while Andrew Karmeris (2009-12) had an RBI triple and T.J. Gavlik (2009-12) added an RBI double to highlight the inning.
North Florida enters the weekend after dropping a pair of extra-inning games. Halfway through the season, the Ospreys have already played five extra-inning games, including a 14-inning contest on Tuesday night against Bethune-Cookman.
Since turning Division I in 2006, North Florida has played 28 total extra-inning games and is 16-12 in those games. The Ospreys have never played more than five extra-inning games in a season since turning Division I.
The longest game in school history happened on March 13, 2007 as North Florida battled Indiana for 16 innings before earning a 10-9 victory.
Scouting the Opposition:
Prior to rescheduling Tuesday's game with Radford, the Bucs (13-8, 3-3 A-Sun) dropped two of three to then-No. 26 Florida Gulf Coast last weekend at Thomas Stadium. All three games were decided by one run, while ETSU had the winning or tying run on base in the ninth inning of both setbacks.
Alex Reynolds hit safely in all three games against the Eagles, as the senior infielder hit .444 (4-9) with three walks and two runs scored. Andrew Green and Jordan Sanford also hit .400 in the series. Green went 3-for-7 (.429) and had the game-winning hit in the opener of Saturday's doubleheader, while Sanford also finished 3-for-7 with two doubles and two runs scored.
Kerry Doane earned the win for the Blue and Gold as the right-handed hurler tossed his fourth complete game in his last five starts. Doane allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five in the 3-2 victory over FGCU.
