UNF stayed perfect in leauge play with a 5-2 win
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Boosted by three-set wins in the top two singles spots, the University of North Florida women's tennis team kept rolling in Atlantic Sun Conference play with a 5-2 win against Belmont Friday night.
UNF (9-2, 4-0 A-Sun) flew through the fifth and sixth singles matches in straight sets while freshman Aline Berkenbrock and junior Raquel Castro needed the extra frame to notch their wins. Berkenbrock won the first set 7-6 before dropping the second 6-1 and finishing Belmont's (5-5, 0-3) Whitnie Warren 6-4 in the third set. Castro picked up her win in comeback form, falling 6-3 in the opening set and tallying 7-6 and 6-3 wins in the second and third sets, respectively.
Sophomores Lauren Holton and Victoria Krook sailed in their singles matches after teaming for an 8-3 win at the No. 3 doubles position. Holton was a 6-2, 6-0 winner, and Krook came out on top of a pair of 6-1 set scores.
The Lady Ospreys took all three doubles matches and dropped two points of the match at the third and fourth singles spots. Senior Ina Durcakova and freshman Nikita van Lierop paired to pick up an 8-4 win in doubles action before slipping in singles play. Durcakova fell 6-4, 6-1 at the fourth spot, and van Lierop skidded in a three-set match at the No. 3 position.
UNF wraps up its road trip in the Music City Saturday when it faces Lipscomb at 11 a.m.
