Barendse Boasts Impressive Performances At ITA Southeast Regional Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis displayed its talent in the ITA Southeast Regional Championships with stellar performances and a Round of 16 appearance from senior Laurie Barendse in the top singles flight on Sunday.
Barendse earned her first singles victory of the week over Miami on Friday, fighting back to win 4-6, 7-5, 7-6. She continued her gritty performance, defeating Florida State in the Round of 32 on Saturday, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
Sophomore Gabby Goyins and graduate Isabel Oliveira also posted victories in the Round of 32 of the top singles flight on Saturday against FGCU and South Florida.
Barendse impressed in the main doubles flight on Friday alongside graduate Isabel Oliveira, taking an 8-1 victory against Stetson in the Round of 32.
Senior Jasmin Makela notched the first two victories of the tournament for the Ospreys with a pair of victories in the first two rounds of open singles on Thursday. Makela stormed back to take her singles match against Mercer, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Makela continued her strong outing in open singles with a win over FIU, 7-5, 6-3.
