Study Hall Program

Rules and Guidelines

1. Each attendee is required to provide syllabi for all courses to the SH Monitor and to establish a study calendar upon his or her first attendance at study hall. Attendees who do not provide such documents will be immediately dismissed and no hours will be counted for the session. The attendee will be required to bring such documents when returning to study hall for another session. In addition, each attendee will sign an agreement affirming the review and receipt of the rules contained herein. Failure to comply will result in immediate dismissal.

2. Study Hall will take place in UNF Hall.  Entrance is granted only by the Study Hall Monitor. Each attendee must sign in and sign out to receive credit for attending study hall. A photo ID is required until the Monitor is familiar with the attendees. Time is kept by the Study Hall Monitor. The sessions run from 6pm to 9pm Monday through Thursday and 3pm to 5pm on Sundays unless otherwise noted at the online calendar for the SH webpage. Attendance will reported the following morning by the Monitor to Wesley Maas in Athletics. Attendees are responsible for ensuring that all required hours are achieved each week.

3. After signing in students must immediately select a seat and begin working. Students should come with enough work for the entire session. Students should continue working until the Monitor indicates that it is time to pack up or until the student has to leave for other existing commitments (i.e. class). Students who arrive late will not disrupt the Study Hall and are subject to being seated wherever a seat remains. Students will be dismissed from study hall at the Monitor’s discretion; upon signing out, the students should leave the Study Hall area immediately so as not to disrupt others still working. Please remember to be courteous to those around you! J

4. Attendees are expected to take care of personal business, including calls, obtaining books from friends/classmates/teammates (who are not members of the study hall), and drinks before or after the session. Students may use the restroom with permission first granted by the Monitor.

5. ALL computer use is subject to review by the Monitor. Messaging programs, Myspace, Facebook, and personal email are prohibited. Blackboard, school-related email, and other educational related items are permissible. Students may listen to music with ear buds/earphones, and this music shouldn’t be audible to those around them. There should only be one student per computer unless otherwise approved for a group study assignment. Students in violation of this policy will be immediately dismissed.

6. Cell phones and cellular-capable PDAs should not be seen during study hall. Please turn these items to silent as if you were attending a movie. The first time a cell phone is seen it will be confiscated for the remainder of the session. If you are expecting a legitimately important phone call that cannot wait until after the session, please notify the Monitor upon signing in for the night.

7. Students should be working, not talking, during study hall. This time has been devoted to help you sufficiently prepare for your classes and to complete necessary homework. Continued talking is disruptive to others around you and often encourages others to talk, which escalates the volume increase in our small setting. Remember we are in an open room in the Press Box and your voices will carry to those around you. If group work is necessary, the private rooms (limited in number) are available on a requested basis. It is permissible to ask simple questions, but chitchat is not permissible. Please try to use this time to the best of your advantage!

8. THERE IS NO FOOD ALLOWED Outside of the UNF Bistro—NOTHING, INCLUDING CANDY. DO NOT BRING IT, DO NOT EAT IT, DO NOT TRY. Attendees caught with food will be immediately removed. If you are running late and must eat before study hall, please eat and then report to study hall. Water is the only drink permitted and must be covered or capped when not in use.

9. Attendees must pick up any trash generated during the session and are responsible for pushing in their chairs. Students will not be allowed to sign out until the area is clean and neat per the Monitor’s opinion.

10. Should an attendee need to meet with a tutor or someone from class during study hall at the study hall site, the visitor will be required to obey and sign for these rules as well.

11. There are generally NO warnings given in study hall. Students may be removed and lose the night’s hours on a first offense. Offenses are reported to Wesley Maas in the attendance and behavior report made each following morning.
