LAKEPOINT, Ga. - North Florida midfielder
Thais Reiss was selected as the ASUN Women's Soccer Freshman of the Year as voted on by the league coaches, while three Ospreys earned All-Conference honors.
Reiss along with junior
Krista Colubiale earned second team nods, while Reiss,
Andrea Sanchez and
Amber Jones were named to the ASUN All-Freshmen Team. It is the first time since 2014 that UNF has seen three rookies earn league honors.
"We are excited to see our players recognized for their accomplishments during the conference season," said head coach
Robin Confer. "This team has been a special group this season. They have all worked extremely hard to have a record-breaking season and we are excited to keep it going."
The Curitiba, Brazil native owns six goals and an assist to lead the team with 13 points. Reiss is the first freshman since the 2010 season to record six goals. She is also the first to score three game-winning goals since 2010. The rookie tops the league in shots and ranks 35th in the country in that category. She is just the second ASUN Freshman of the Year for the Ospreys, as Carolina Lencina garnered the honor in 2010.
Colubiale earns her third straight nod to the ASUN second team with her three goals and two assists. She scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime at Jacksonville, while also recording an assist on the match-tying goal. For her performance, Colubiale was awarded the ASUN Player of the Week honor. Her other game-winner came against Winthrop in the fifth minute of the game. Colubiale has now scored three or more goals in each of her seasons as an Osprey.
Sanchez and Jones, along with Reiss, helped the Osprey back line record six shutouts - the most since the 2005 season. Jones led the team in minutes and was the main kicker for free kicks. Sanchez was key to limiting opponent opportunities as North Florida generated six more shots per game than their foes.
These players along with the rest of the North Florida squad now prepare for the ASUN Tournament when they travel to Kennesaw State for a Sunday meeting. It is the second time the two teams are meeting in the opening round. The last time was in 2012 when UNF took home a 3-1 win.
