Smoak Named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week

MACON, Ga. – Men's soccer junior midfielder Micah Smoak was named the Atlantic Sun co-Defensive Player of the Week. The first year Osprey was pivotal in the Ospreys' third Mike Gibbs Tournament title in the last four years this past weekend.

From his defensive midfield position, Smoak helped the Ospreys to a 3-0 shutout of Winthrop on Friday night. The Eagles struggled to create chances in the Osprey zone and managed only four shots the entire contest, with two on goal.

Smoak also made an immediate impact on the Osprey offense. He scored his first goal of the season when he converted a penalty kick in the second half against Winthrop. He followed that up with his second goal of the season on Sunday night off a set piece in the first half against UNC Greensboro.

Of the 200 minutes of soccer this weekend, Smoak was on the field for 191 of them. He totaled six shots in two games. He is the first North Florida field player to earn Defensive honors since Diogo Quirno took home the honors on Nov. 4, 2013.
