TULSA - North Florida men's tennis pair Jack Findel-Hawkins and Lasse Muscheites battled in the Main Draw Doubles final, but it was the No. 2 pair from California who came up with the win to close out ITA All-American Championships.
Findel-Hawkins and Muscheites were the last remaining qualifying duo in the main draw doubles.Â
"What a great run we had. I am just so proud of Lasse and Jack," said head coach Mark Finnegan. "They handled themselves with such class and maturity all week long."
After the Ospreys' seven straight victories over the last week, the No. 2 California duo Florian Lakat and Filip Bergevi snapped UNF's streak on court three. The Golden Bears broke North Florida after taking a 4-3 lead en route to a 6-4 first set victory. In set two, California grasped the title with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Both teams earn automatic entry into the National Indoors.
"All of the credit goes to California on the win. They served huge and took their chances." added Finnegan. "In terms of North Florida tennis, this is just another step in moving our program forward.Lasse and Jack can lead the way knowing that UNF can win national championships. It is so hard to put into words just how proud I am of them."
Over the course of the champoinships, Findel-Hawkins and Muscheites picked up wins against four nationally-ranked opponents. Prior to this, the duo had only played four total doubles matches together.
