Jewish Sports Review Names Renner All-American

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of North Florida baseball team's Michael Renner was selected as an All-American by the Jewish Sports Review for his play during the 2013 season. Renner was one of seven seniors selected to the 17-man squad.
Renner finished the 2013 season as an All-Atlantic Sun Conference selection. In addition, he also earned A-Sun Baseball Academic All-Conference team accolades.
Renner ranked in the NCAA in earned run average (31st), victories (53rd), walks allowed per nine innings (54th) and WHIP (142nd) heading into the final weekend of the season. He ranked in the Atlantic Sun top-10 in earned run average (2nd), wins (2nd), opposing batting average (5th), innings pitched (6th) and batters struck out looking (7th).
The West Hills, Calif. native led the top pitching staff in the conference with a 1.81 earned run average on the season, boasting a 9-2 record on the year. Renner tossed 94.2 innings, surrendering 90 hits (22 extra-base hits), allowing just 31 runs (19 earned runs). He walked just 16 while striking out 54. A contact pitcher, he struck out four or more batters in eight of his 12 games started. The southpaw did not allow an earned run in six appearances with 10 appearances of one run or fewer allowed runs. After the first appearance of the season, his ERA never rose above 2.00.
Renner earned wins vs. The Citadel, at UCF, vs. Lafayette, vs. ETSU, vs. Mercer, vs. Northern Kentucky, vs. Kennesaw State, at Jacksonville and at Stetson. He tossed a complete game shutout against the Hatters (7.0 innings), striking out five without allowing a walk. The crafty lefty had a season-high seven strikeout against Lafayette, while fanning six batters against ETSU and Mercer. Renner recorded five Ks on the road against both Jacksonville and Stetson. In addition, he tossed a complete game in the A-Sun Championships Semifinals against Kennesaw State, notching five strikeouts.
In the classroom, Renner boasts a 3.30 grade point average in sport management.
