JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team will have an opportunity to avenge an tough early-season loss on Monday, as it travels to Atlanta, Ga. to face off against 75th-ranked Georgia State in a 10 a.m. dual match.
The Ospreys are riding high as of late, having won six matches in a row, including a pair of 7-0 Atlantic Sun Conference wins over Kennesaw State and Mercer this past weekend, to raise their record to 8-6 on the year. UNF has a quartet of players who have won at least four matches in a row, as seniors Daniel Sotomarino and Pedro Davisson each have four consecutive victories, while senior Julien Belair and sophomore Norbert Nemcsek both own team-best six-match winning streaks.
Georgia State enters the match with an 8-7 record in 2013, though the Panthers fell 4-2 at UAB in their last match on March 18. GSU is led by a pair of seniors in Victor Valente and Lucas Santa Ana. The duo is ranked 38th in the country in this week's ITA National Doubles Rankings, while the ITA also ranked Valente as the No. 67 singles player in the country.
The two teams faced off earlier this season, as Georgia State edged the Ospreys, 4-3, at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Charlottesville, Va. on January 26. That match, UNF's second of the 2013 campaign, was a back-and-forth battle throughout, as the seventh and final match provided the deciding point. The loss represents one of just five matches this season in which the Ospreys failed to win the doubles point.
