JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team will face its highest-ranked home opponent of the season on Thursday afternoon, as they welcome 20th-ranked Baylor to the UNF Tennis Complex for a 2 p.m. match.
The Ospreys, who sit at 2-5 after facing six top-75 opponents in their first seven matches, will face their seventh on Thursday afternoon. Baylor will be the second highest-ranked opponent UNF has faced this year, after squaring off against No. 1 Virginia to open the season.
Last week, the Ospreys, who remained at No. 62 in the country for the fourth consecutive week, dropped a tough 6-1 decision at No. 65 Georgia Tech. The match was highlighted by senior Moritz Buerchner and sophomore Norbert Nemcsek's doubles win over Juan Spir and Vikram Hundal, who had entered the match ranked third in the nation.
Baylor is led in the national rankings by a trio of underclassmen. Sophmores Marko Krickovic and Mate Zsiga are ranked 56th and 76th in the ITA National Singles Rankings, while freshman Julian Lenz checks in at No. 59.
The Bears enter the weekend on a three-match winning streak that has brought their record to 5-1 on the year. Baylor is 1-1 away from Waco, while the Ospyeys won their only home match thus far, a 4-3 victory over No. 75 Louisiana.
For the Ospreys, Buerchner is still ranked No. 96 in the ITA rankings, while also pairing with Nemcsek to form the No. 12 doubles pair in the country, though there has not been a new doubles ranking since the duo's victory last Saturday. The Yellow Jackets have no doubles pairs ranked in the top 60.
Admission for Thursday afternoon's match is free, while updates will be provided on Twitter at @OspreyMTEN.
