JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida tennis programs will be starting the 2013 season in style as they christen the newly-renovated UNF Tennis Complex.
After construction began on November 1, 2012, all 11 lighted hard courts in the complex received a complete overhaul. Multiple courts were torn down and rebuilt from the ground up with new fencing, while all 11 were resurfaced and repainted.
"As a tennis program, this has been very exciting for us," Head Men's Tennis Coach Adam Schaechterle said. "To have the kind of facility we have now will be immensely helpful when it comes to recruiting."
In addition to the surfaces and fencing, the off-season also saw the addition of new windscreens on all 11 courts. The windscreens decorating the longest portion of fencing are adorned with the text "NORTH FLORIDA" and "OSPREY TENNIS", as well as the Osprey logo.
"We couldn't be happier with the improvements," Head Women's Tennis Coach Audra Cohen said. "We think that we now have one of the best facilities in the Atlantic Sun Conference and we're very proud of it."
The women's team, who won the A-Sun Championship in 2012, will kick off their home season on January 26, as they take on Bethune-Cookman in an 11 a.m. match. The men will face their first home opponent on February 11, when they host Louisiana-Lafayette at 2 p.m.
