
Men's Tennis Finishes Up Day Two at Southern Intercollegiates

ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team earned multiple wins as they finished up the second day of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships on the campus of the University of Georgia on Saturday.
Sophomore Timo Kranz won his second round match with Ezequiel Gils of Tennessee Tech, 6-4, 7-5, but fell in the Round of 16 to Casey Kay of Georgia, 6-2, 6-2.
“Timo was the bright spot of the tournament for us,” Head Coach Adam Schaechterle said. “To see him play like that and have the best tournament of his career was great to see.”
Sophomore Norbert Nemcsek knocked off Dillon Segur of Liberty, his second round opponent, 6-1, 6-2, before also stumbling in the third round to Tobi Menhofer of Kennesaw State, 6-1, 6-1.
Senior Pedro Davisson dropped his second round match to Ayrton Wibowo, a seeded opponent, 6-2, 7-6(6). Freshman Mark Hamill also fell in the second round, 6-2, 6-3 to Jorge Azuero of Liberty.
Senior Julien Belair lost a hard-fought, three-set match, 1-6, 7-5, 6-0, to his second round opponent, Shea Thomas of Liberty, while senior Leonardo Nahar also fell to Hunter Koontz of Virginia Tech, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.
Senior Moritz Buerchner, playing as a top-16 seed in the Division I bracket, fell to Kris Yee of Vanderbilt, 6-4, 6-3. Senior Daniel Sotomarino also dropped his Division I consolation bracket match to Garrett Brasseaux, 6-1, 7-5.
In doubles, only one match involving the Ospreys was able to be completed due to weather, as Sotomarino and Nemcsek fell to Jordan Angus and Pedro Dumont of Mississippi State, 8-5.
“It was a tough day for us against some tough competition,” Schaechterle said. “We're going to learn from it and use it to get better.”
Tomorrow's matches will begin at 8:30 a.m.
