
Men's Tennis Announces 2012-13 Schedule

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Matches against multiple top-ten opponents highlight the University of North Florida men's team's 2012-13 schedule, as announced by Head Coach Adam Schaechterle on Tuesday.
“One of the core principles of our program is that we are willing to play any team, anywhere,” Schaechterle said. “Our schedule this season backs that up.”
The season will kick off this coming weekend (Sept. 7-10), as the Ospreys travel to Athens, Ga. for the Southern Intercollegiates. The following week (Sept. 14-16) they will head to Gainesville, Fla. for the Florida State Championships, where senior Moritz Buerchner returns as the “A” flight defending champion.
UNF will make stops at the FGCU Invite (Sept. 28-30) and the All-Americans in Tulsa, Okla. (Sept. 29-Oct. 7), before concluding their fall season at the Southeast Regionals (Oct. 18-22) in Tallahassee, Fla.
“Our fall schedule includes multiple events where we will compete against teams from the SEC, ACC, Big East and Big XII,” Schaechterle said. “The guys can't wait to get started.”
The spring season will gets started back in Tallahassee, as the Ospreys will take on Florida State and Florida A&M on Jan. 12, followed by a match against Furman on Jan. 13. After two weeks off, UNF will head north to Charlottesville, Va. to participate in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend for a chance to compete at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Ospreys will face top-seeded Virginia on Jan. 25 before playing one of Arkansas or Georgia State the following day.
UNF will return to the state of Virginia on Feb. 1-2, for matches at William & Mary and Virginia Commonwealth, respectively. After a Feb. 8 match at South Florida, the Ospreys will open their home campaign when they welcome Louisiana-Lafayette (Feb. 11), South Alabama (Feb. 13) and Baylor (Feb. 21) to Jacksonville.
Following a Feb. 24 bout at Miami, UNF will return home for four consecutive matches. UCF (Mar. 1) and Cleveland State (Mar. 9) will come to campus, followed by the Ospreys kicking off their Atlantic Sun Conference schedule with matches against Kennesaw State (Mar. 14) and Mercer (Mar. 16).
March 18 will see the Ospreys on the road for a non-conference match against Georgia State before returning to conference play with matches at East Tennessee State (Mar. 22) and USC Upstate (Mar. 23).
UNF will conclude its home schedule with Florida Gulf Coast (Apr. 5) and Stetson (Apr. 6) before rounding out its 2012-13 campaign on the road against Northern Kentucky (Apr. 11) and Lipscomb (Apr. 13).
The Ospreys wrapped up the 2012 season with a No. 66 national ranking. They were ranked 11 times, including in the final eight polls of the 2012 season. UNF achieved its highest ranking in its Division I years on Mar. 20, coming in at No. 50 after posting back-to-back 4-3 wins over nationally-ranked South Alabama and UNC Wilmington in consecutive days.
