Men's Tennis Gears Up for Bedford Cup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's tennis team will head to their second tournament in as many weekends as they travel to the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the 2012 Bedford Cup.
Formerly named the State of Florida Championships, the tournament welcomes 11 schools from Florida to participate this weekend, including UNF, Florida, UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida A&M, USF, Florida State, Miami and Bethune-Cookman, as well as fellow A-Sun members Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.
Senior Moritz Buerchner, the defending “A” flight champion, is seeded seventh in this year's singles draw and will look to retain in his crown.
Aside from Buerchner, six other Ospreys will join him in the singles draw. Senior Leonardo Nahar, sophomore Timo Kranz senior Julien Belair, junior Fernando Costa, senior Pedro Davisson and sophomore Norbert Nemcsek will also look to advance out of Friday's first round, which is scheduled to begin at 12:45 p.m.
Kicking off a few hours before the singles first round will be the doubles bracket. UNF will send the pairings of Nahar/Kranz, Costa/Davisson and Buerchner/Belair to the first round, set to start at 9:00 a.m.
Last week saw the Ospreys turn in a solid season-opening performance at the Southern Intercollegiates. Kranz highlighted the UNF performances in Athens, Ga., advancing to the Round of 16 in the Division II bracket.
