JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a 3-0 home-opening weekend, the University of North Florida volleyball team opens an eight-match road swing on Tuesday evening when the Ospreys visit Bethune-Cookman for their first mid-week match of the season.
“We're coming off a successful weekend and hope to carry that success into this week's matches,” said head coach Steve Loeswick. “We always have room for improvement and we will definitely continue to grow as a program with this week.”
Tuesday's night's match is the first of a home-and-home series with between UNF and Bethune-Cookman this season. The two teams meet again in Jacksonville on Oct. 16.
Additionally, Tuesday night's match is the first of four matches this week for UNF. The Ospreys also play at the Winthrop Invitational this weekend in their final regular season tournament. Senior Paige Pridgeon is just four digs away from reaching 1,000 career digs and becoming the third player in program history to have 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. She eclipsed the 1,000-kill benchmark last season against ETSU on Oct. 8.
The Ospreys' undefeated home weekend included sweeps over Florida A&M and Presbyterian and a thrilling 3-2, come-from-behind win against Davidson at the Radisson/North Florida Invitational. Senior Carolyn Jenkins was tabbed as the tournament's MVP, while senior Nicole Baran and junior Britt Claessens also earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
Bethune-Cookman hosts its first match of the season at Moore Gymnasium on Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats are still searching for their first win of the season after starting the season at 0-12 and having been swept 3-0 in all their matches except for two. Tuesday night's match is Bethune-Cookman's second match against an Atlantic Sun opponent. The Lady Wildcats played at Stetson last Tuesday, falling 3-0. Krysta Gardner has 127 of the team's 340 kills.
UNF leads the all-time series 12-1 and won last year's meeting 3-0 at UNF Arena on Oct. 25.
Match time is set for 7 p.m.
