MACON, Ga. -- Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Beninati of the University of North Florida women's soccer team notched two shutouts to earn her first career Atlantic Sun Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Award, as announced by the conference on Monday.
On Friday, Beninati recorded four saves to hold South Carolina State scoreless, helping the Ospreys to a 2-0 victory. She followed that performance up with six saves, a new career-best, in a 3-0 shutout of Gardner-Webb on Sunday afternoon.
Beninati, who has played every minute between the pipes for UNF this season, has tallied 18 saves and a .818 save percentage en route to a 2-2 record in 2012. She started just one game for the Ospreys last year, recording a shutout in a 2-0 victory over USC Upstate.
UNF is next in action on Friday evening at 6 p.m. as they welcome Georgia Southern to Hodges Stadium. Live stats and video will be available on UNFOspreys.com.
