Men’s Soccer Announces 2012 Signees

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's soccer coach Derek Marinatos announced nine signees for the 2012 season. The Ospreys add Andrew Bruce, Jake Frahm, Alejandro Jergovic, Alex Morrell, Kyle Nasta, Jean Rivaroli, Brad Sienkiewicz, Drew Spragg and Grady Trimble to the team for the upcoming season.
“We feel we have signed a class consisting of the top talent in the state of Florida for 2012,” Marinatos stated. “This class will help us take another step forward in building our program here at North Florida.”
Bruce, a defender/midfielder, lettered at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Fla. He also played for the Florida Rush club soccer team. He won the 2011 U17 State Cup, 2011 Region III Championships, 2010 and 2011 Disney Showcase, as well as Region III premier league. In 2011, Bruce was also a 2011 National Finalist.
Marinatos on Bruce: “Drew is a big strong defender and very tough physically. Having played holding mid for a large portion of his club career and transitioning to center back in the last year and a half, he is very comfortable on the ball and building out of the back.”
Frahm, a midfielder, lettered at Land O'Lakes High School in Land O'Lakes, Fla. He helped the Gators to three consecutive District Championships. Frahm was tabbed Tampa Bay Times Player of the Year in 2010. He was also the All-North Suncoast Tampa Player of the year in 2011, finishing his senior year with 8 goals and 24 assists. In addition, he was named First Team All-District, All-Area and All-Region as a sophomore and junior, as well as First Team All-State as a junior, Second Team All-State as a sophomore and Third Team All-State as a freshman. Frahm played club soccer for Clearwater Academy, RSL Florida and Hillsborough United Central Pasco, helping his club teams to 2010 National Runner-Up, 2010 Southern Regional Champions, 2010 Sparta Cup Champions, 2010 Florida State Cup Champions, 2008 and 2009 Florida State Runner-Up, 2009 USL Super Y National Champions, 2009 Vulcan Cup Champions and 2009 Score at the Shore Champions.
Marinatos on Frahm: “Jake is an ideal holding midfield player with great feet and passing vision to go along with his athleticism and size. He has a natural feel for the game and is capable of dominating in the midfield. He is also capable of playing center back as well.”
Jergovic, a forward/winger, attended Pembroke Pines Charter High School (2010-12) as well as Western High School (2008-10). He scored 22 goals with 10 assists as a senior for 54 total points. Jergovic was nominated for the 2012 All-Star Game. He scored a goal in the senior game against St. Thomas High School to help the Jaguars win 2-0. Jergovic played club soccer for West Pines FC and Weston FC. He won the State Cup in 2006. In addition to his efforts on the field, Jergovic is also an honor student.
Marinatos on Jergovic: “Alejandro is a very dangerous attacking player. He is dynamic both on and off the ball and is capable of scoring goals and creating scoring opportunities for his teammates. He is comfortable back to goal and also face up running at defenses. He can play multiple attacking positions and will be an exciting player to watch.”
Morrell, a forward/winger, was a letter winner at George Jenkins High School in Lakeland, Fla. He helped the Eagles to the 2012 District Championship. Morrell led GJHS to a 91-4-8 record in four years. He was named First Team All-District as a senior and sophomore; Second Team All-District as a junior; and Honorable Mention All-District as a freshman. Morrell was tabbed the 2012 Player of the Year in Polk County with 36 goals and 17 assists, and was asked to play in the 2012 All-Star Game. In his high school career he scored 75 goals with 39 assists for 189 points. In 2010, Morrell earned a try out for U17 U.S. National Team. Morrell played club soccer for Strictly Soccer FC and took part in ESPN Disney Qualifier, Memorial Day Germantown and Disney Cup events, scoring 10 of 12 goals at Disney FYSA State Cup Final Four.
Marinatos on Morrell: “Alex is another dynamic attacking player, capable of causing lots of problems for opposing defenses. He is very quick and athletic and dangerous when face up with the ball running at defenders from wide. He also combines well in the attack to set up his teammates with scoring opportunities and never stops chasing defensively.”
Nasta, a goalkeeper and Jacksonville native, attended Episcopal High School (2009-12) and Mandarin High School (2008-09). He helped the Eagles to a 53-14-7 career record, including a 20-1-1 mark as a senior. Nasta was named All-District as a sophomore and a junior. He posted 27 saves against Ponte Vedra HS during the 2010-11 season. Nasta saved four penalty kicks in a row to win a PK shootout his senior year. He was selected to the FACA All Star Team in 2012. He was also an All First Coast 1st Team selection in 2012. He notched an Episcopal school record 0.56 goals against average for his career (2009-2012) and also set the single season record with a 0.45 goals against average his senior year. Nasta also played club soccer with Jacksonville Youth Soccer Club and JUFC and participated in the 2012 National League.
Marinatos on Nasta: “Kyle is very athletic and a tremendous shot stopper. He also has an outstanding work ethic in training, and has continued to improve his senior year. One of his major strengths is that he is also a solid field player and very good distributor with the ball at his feet. We are thrilled at getting another top local talent from Jacksonville.”
Rivaroli, a forward, played soccer at West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Fla. He helped the Warriors to a 32-3 record in his final two seasons. Rivaroli scored 37 goals with 29 assists (103 points) as a junior/senior. He helped team to 2011 District Championship, 2011 Regional Finals, 2012 District Championship and 2012 Regionals. Rivaroli played club soccer with Florida Rush. He won the 2011 U17 State Cup, 2011 Region III Championships, 2010 and 2011 Disney Showcase. Rivaroli was named 2010 Disney Showcase MVP and 2011 Region III Championships MVP leading all goal scorers with seven goals. Rivaroli was also a 2011 National Finalist. He scored 102 goals, including 39-for-39 in penalty kicks, with 79 assists in four years with the Rush. Rivaroli attended USL National ODP, State ODP and Regional ODP. In addition to his efforts on the field, Rivaroli is an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society.
Marinatos on Rivaroli: “Jean is a proven goal scorer. He leads by example and works extremely hard at his craft. He is good with his back to goal and has a nose for being in the right place at the right time. He is also a very smart soccer player and makes excellent runs to put himself in good positions to score and set up his teammates.”
Prior to North Florida, Sienkiewicz, a transfer goalkeeper, attended the University of South Florida (USF) and was a member of the Bulls team that won the 2008 Big East Championship. In high school, he lettered at Tampa Preparatory School, helping the Terrapins to the 2005, 2007 and 2008 State Championship with a runner-up finish in 2006. Sienkiewicz was named First Team All-District all four years of high school, First Team All-State as a senior, First Team All-Area as a junior and senior and Honorable Mention All-Area as a freshman and sophomore. He was named Tampa Prep Male Athlete of the Year, as well as, Hillsborough County Player of the Year in 2008. Sienkiewicz was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year. He posted 70 career shutouts at goal with 14 as a freshman, 18 as a sophomore, 18 as a junior and 20 as a senior. Sienkiewicz played club soccer with the Tampa Bay Kickers and RSL Florida, winning the 2006 and 2007 State Championships. He also played baseball in high school, earning Freshman of the Year and All-District honors. In addition to his efforts on the field, Sienkiewicz was an honor student.
Marinatos on Sienkiewicz: “Brad is a mature young man that comes in with lots of goalkeeping experience. He has played at a very high level and does a great job of managing the game. He is also an excellent distributor as well. We look forward to the experience and maturity that he will bring both on and off the field to our program for one year.”
Spragg, a defender/midfielder, was a four-year letter winner at West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Fla. He helped the Warriors to the District Championships in 2011 and 2012. Spragg was named First Team All-Metro and Second Team All-Region as a junior. He scored 41 career goals with 55 total assists for 96 career points. Spragg boasted four goals and two assists vs. East Ridge High School. He played club soccer with Florida Rush Nike. He won the 2011 U17 State Cup, 2011 Region III Championships, and 2010 and 2011 Disney Showcase. Spragg was also a 2011 National Finalist.
In addition to his efforts on the field, Spragg is an honor student and member of the National Honor Society.
Marinatos on Spragg: “Drew is a very athletic, attacking left sided player capable of playing defender or midfield. He is very good in 1 vs. 1 situations defensively, and gets forward into the attack from the back or midfield. He is capable of both short and long range passing with consistency.”
Prior to North Florida, Trimble, a transfer defender, attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. He was named to the Big South Conference All-Freshman Team. Trimble made 15 appearances on the field on defense with eight starts. In high school, he attended Clearwater Central Catholic High School in Clearwater, Fla. Trimble played club soccer for Strictly Soccer Futbol Club. In addition, he also ran track as a senior, earning All-District and team MVP honors.
Marinatos on Trimble: “Grady is a very athletic, defender with tremendous covering speed. He is good in the air and aggressive as a defender in 1 vs. 1 situations. In addition to being a good communicator and very intelligent, he has some solid Division I playing experience from last year.”
