INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – University of North Florida women's tennis learned where it was headed to start the 2012 NCAA Tennis Tournament and the Ospreys will be heading back south to Miami. The Hurricanes earned a No. 10 national seed and will be hosting their eighth-straight NCAA Regional at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
It is the second time in three years in which the Ospreys qualified for the NCAA Tournament. UNF received the Atlantic Sun's 2012 automatic bid when the Ospreys held on for a 4-2 win over ETSU in the A-Sun Tournament. In 2010, UNF opened the national tournament against Florida State in Tallahassee on May 14, 2010.
UNF has already faced Miami earlier this season, falling 7-0 on Mar. 3 to the Hurricanes, who were also ranked No. 10 nationally at the time. However, since that meeting, UNF has gone 14-1 and won its last 12.
Participating in an NCAA Tournament match in Coral Gables will be a familiar place for UNF head coach Audra Cohen, who played for Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews. Cohen won the 2007 NCAA women's tennis singles championship, becoming the first player in Miami's tennis history to win an individual national title.
The UNF-Miami match is scheduled for 1 p.m., on Friday, May 11. Winner of that match will advance to the regional finals to face the winner of the Texas Tech-Utah match on Saturday, May 12 at 1 p .m.
