JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida track and field teams both grabbed top-five finishes on Saturday at the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hodges Stadium.
The women's team placed third, just three points behind second-place Kennesaw State, while the men took fifth place.
"The unpredictable weather today certainly added an element to it that we weren't expecting," Head Coach Mark VanAlstyne said. "But overall, I think there were quite a few outstanding performances from a lot of people on this team."
Sophomore Brianna Frazier led the way for the Ospreys on the second day of competition, taking gold in the 400m with a time of 53.83, while also running the anchor leg for the 4x400m relay team. Junior Jaybria Calcote, sophomore Sharniece Supal, senior Ava Rivera and Frazier combined to win the event and record a new school-record time of 3:43.47.
Frazier also took the gold medal in the 200m with a time of 23.66.
Junior Jasmine Jackson knocked down a school record of her own, clocking a 13.85 in the finals of the 100m hurdles to earn runner-up honors, while senior Andrea Bridges recorded a new personal-best of 1.67m (5-5 3/4) in the high jump to take third place.
Junior Jennifer Smyth also set a new personal record in the triple jump with a mark of 12.14m (39-10), good for third place.
On the men's side, sophomore David Shepherd continued his run of excellence in field events, recording a mark of 52.72m (172-11) in the javelin, a new personal best, to finish second. He also finished eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.72m (45-0 1/4).
Sophomore Dante Bouldin broke yet another Osprey record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.13. Bouldin finished fourth in the event. He also ran the first leg of the 4x100m relay that, along with juniors Skylar and Nick Squillace and David Shepherd, tied the school record with a time of 42.51.
In the 800m, freshman Taylor Sumagpang (1:53.42) and junior Cameron Dickerson (1:53.51) finished third and fourth, respectively.
"At the conference championships, it's tougher. Even if you're just a little bit off, you can drop from first to fourth really fast," VanAlstyne said. "All said, I'm thrilled with the efforts I saw today and I think it's another step forward for our program."
The track and field teams will next head to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the Seminole Twilight meet, May 4-5 on the campus of Florida State University.
