TALLAHASSEE, Fla -- Senior Christina King broke her own school record in the pole vault as the University of North Florida track and field teams wrapped up their first day at the FSU Relays on Friday evening at Mark Long Track.
The later events of the evening were delayed for roughly 90 minutes due to lightning in the area.
King led the way on the women's side, tying for second place with a mark of 3.95m (12-11 1/2) and breaking the school record she set last week at the USF Bulls Invite. Sophomore Caleigh Boyington finished just behind in fourth, breaking her own personal record with a mark of 3.65m (11-11 3/4).
Junior Meggie Emons also clocked a new personal-best on the evening with a 17:11.06 in the 5000m, good for fourth place. Senior Laura Ragland took sixth place in the race with a time of 18:04.94, also a personal best. In her first attempt at the event, freshman Elle Baker took third place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:12.58.
Only 10 Ospreys were in action on the men's side, but senior Cameron Dickerson ensured they did not go home empty-handed, winning his third gold medal in as many outdoor meets. Dickerson's 3:47.58 in the 1500m was just over one second slower than his all-time best time in the event.
In the 5000m, junior Chase Nelson (15:17.10) and sophomore Chris Haynes (16:17.63) both clocked new personal bests, finishing fifth and 21st, respectively. Sophomore Dante Bouldin took 12th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.35, a new career record.
For day two, the collegiate field events will begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning with the discus, while the running events will begin at 12:20 p.m. with the women's 200m.
