JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Senior Cameron Dickerson's gold medal in the 5,000m highlighted the first day of competition for the University of North Florida track and field teams at the UNF Spring Break Invite on Friday. Dickerson's time of 14:57.55 was the fastest by over eight seconds.
For the men, Dickerson was followed in the 5,000m by senior Mike Strasser (15:08.01) and sophomore Sean White (15:18.35) in third and fifth, respectively. Sophomore David Shepherd grabbed runner-up honors in the pole vault with a mark of 5.01m, while freshman Jake Menen took fifth in the 400m (48.55) in his first outdoor meet.
On the women's side, senior Christina King tied for the top spot in the pole vault (3.80m) to lead the way. Sophomore Christina Johnson took fifth in the 100m hurdles (14.44), while the 400m saw junior Jaybria Calcote (56.88) and senior Ava Rivera (57.11) take sixth and eighth, respectively.
"I think it was a great first day, I think we had very good performances from a lot of people," Head Coach Mark VanAlstyne said. "I think Cameron had a fantastic race in his first foray into that distance and I'm excited to see what everyone brings tomorrow."
The second day of competition will begin on Saturday with field events at 8:00 a.m. and running events beginning at 9:00 a.m.. Live results will be available at the attached link.
