
Kerr's Career Night Powers Women's Hoops to 74-69 Overtime Win at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Jadhken Kerr had a career-night from beyond the arc, getting her 200th career trey and hitting seven for the game, to help lead University of North Florida women's basketball to a 74-69 overtime victory at ETSU on Saturday at the MSHA Athletic Center.
Kerr had a career-high 25 points, going 7-for-15 from three-point range and 8-for-21 on the night. She entered the game needing just three to reach 200, a mark she reached with eight seconds left in the first half. She now has 204 career three-pointers and is just two away from tying Leigh Gaudy's program record of 206. Meanwhile, her seven treys set a new single-game record, breaking the mark of six that Kerr, Karli Knudsen, Natalie Hicks and Shanna Gentry .
Raneisha Lamar finished the day with her first career double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Of Lamar's 15 rebounds 11 were offensive. Taylor Smith added in 10 points, while Larkira Jones pulled down 12 boards, 10 of which were defensive.
Destiny Mitchell had a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double for ETSU. Natalie Pickwell had a team-best 18 points, while Cara Bowling also added 13.
UNF shot 43.1 percent for the game, going 28-for-65 from the field. The Ospreys won the battle on the glass, 55-40.
ETSU was 33.3 percent on the floor, make 24-of-72 shots.
ETSU opened the first half with a 5-0 run, but UNF rattled off nine unanswered points to go up 9-5 at 15:57. UNF took advantage of ETSU's poor shooting to lead for the remainder of the first half. The Ospreys ultimately got up to an eight-point lead with a layup by Lamar at 7:14 made it 23-15. A 6-0 run by the Lady Bucs saw UNF's advantage get cut down to two with 4:41 to go. UNF and ETSU battled it out over the next couple of minutes. However, UNF got the final two baskets of the half with a Brittany Kirkland jumper at 2:01 and then Kerr's trey at eight seconds to close out the half with a 24-36 advantage.
In the second half, UNF face a hot-shooting ETSU team that was 7-for-10 from three-point range during that half alone. ETSU chipped away at UNF's lead early and tied it at 45-45 on a Pickwell three. After a foul shot by Lamar put UNF up by one, Brianna Bogard hit a trey that put ETSU up 48-46 with 10:07 to go.
Control for the game went back and forth between the two teams. UNF got a pair of five-point leads, including at 5:13 with a Lamar layup that made it 62-57. ETSU came back to tie the game at 62-all with two Pickwell foul shots and then went up by two on a Mitchell layup at 42 seconds. However, Jones hit a key jumper that deadlocked the game at 64-64 and ultimately force overtime.
UNF led throughout the entire extra session. Up by one, Kerr hit her seventh trey of the game and Lamar made a free throw to give UNF a five-point, 72-67 advantage with 51 seconds. ETSU brought it to a three-point game with made foul shots by Cara Bowling, but a free throw by Kirkland at 30 seconds and another foul shot by Octavia Langston at 11 seconds put the Ospreys up by five. ETSU attempted a jumper in the final six seconds, but Jones made the block and Kim Baker came up with the rebound to secure the win for the Ospreys.
UNF returns to UNF Arena for its final two home games next weekend. The Ospreys host Mercer on Thursday night in what will be UNF's Play4Kay game. Play4Kay, formally known as the WBCA'sPinkZone, is an intiative that raises awareness and funds for cancer research and benefits the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to Thursday night's game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
