TULSA, Okla. -- Senior Moritz Buerchner battled back from a one-set defecit to win a hard-fought three-set match and advance to the final round of qualifying at the 2012 ITA Men's All-American Championships on Tuesday afternoon.
Buerchner took down Leonard Stakhovsky of the University of Oklahoma, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, en route to his second consecutive trip to the qualifying finals. After dropping the first set, Buerchner fought back from a 4-1 deficit in the second set en route to the victory. The winner will advance to the main singles draw.
Buerchner also paired with sophomore Norbert Nemcsek in the doubles qualifying bracket, taking down Romain Bogaerts and Pedro Dumont of Mississippi State in their first round match, 8-6, to advance to the second round. The pair came back from a 5-2 deficit to earn the victory. They will now face Axel Alvarez and Daniel Webb of Oklahoma in tomorrow's second round and will need to win two more games to advance to the main doubles draw.
"Both of our guys just battled all day in their matches," Head Coach Adam Schaechterle said. "We could have executed better today, but I'm very proud of the way they competed and fought back. Tomorrow we'll plan on doing both."
