
Multiple Ospreys Advance at ITA Southeast Regionals

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Three singles players and a doubles team from the University of North Florida men's tennis team are still in contention at the 2012 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships after play on Friday evening on the campus of Florida State University.
Senior Moritz Buerchner, sophomore Norbert Nemcsek and senior Pedro Davisson advanced to the second round of the singles main draw on the strength of morning wins.
Buerchner beat Nathan Rakitt of Georgia Tech in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-2, while Nemcsek also did not waste time, downing Tobias Menhofer of Kennesaw State, 7-5, 6-1. Davisson was tied with Will Neuner of Florida Atlantic 6-4, 3-6 through two sets, but finished with a dominating 6-0 third set to advance.
Senior Julien Belair fell in his opening match, 7-5, 6-2 to Lucas Santa Ana of Georgia State, but will continue play tomorrow in the consolation bracket.
Buerchner and Nemcsek were the only Osprey pairing to advance in the doubles bracket, winning a pair of matches to move into tomorrow's quarterfinals. After opening the day with an 8-4 win over a team from Miami, the twosome cruised to an 8-1 victory over a Florida Atlantic pairing in the evening.
Tomorrow's play will begin at 9 a.m., with third-round matches starting at 1 p.m. Doubles play will immediately follow.
