PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 5/7 ranked University of North Florida golf team looks to build on its successful fall season performance as it opens spring season play Monday-Tuesday at the Sea Best Invitational hosted by Jacksonville University.
The two-day, 54 hole event will be held at the PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC at Sawgrass. The tournament features a 13-team field including six squads ranked in the Top 100 highlighted by four in Top 50.
The Ospreys, the top ranked team in the field, are joined in the competition by No. 36/30 Liberty, No. 34/37 Florida, No. 41/44 East Carolina, No. 75/83 Jacksonville State, No. 82/84 Florida Gulf Coast, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, ETSU, Georgia State, Mercer, Old Dominion and host Jacksonville.
The teams will play two rounds on Monday, beginning with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start, followed by a final round Tuesday.
North Florida finished among the top three teams in every event in the fall including a pair of tournament championships (AutoTrader.com Invitational and Amelia National). UNF sends a line-up led by junior Sean Dale, a top 10 finisher in all four fall events, into its season opener. Dale will be joined by seniors Kevin Aylwin and Joe Byun along with juniors Kevin Phelan and Pete Kellerman. Freshman Joey Petronio is competing as an individual.
“We are excited to get the spring season started,” said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. “After a good fall, it will be a fun challenge to try and see if we can keep it going. The golf course will be a good test to start the spring. It is the home of the PGA PLAYERS Championship so it will be a chance to see what the guys shoot on a course the pros play.”

Following the Sea Best event, North Florida will make its annual appearance in the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Feb. 11-12 in Gainesville, Fla.
