DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Bouyed by dominance in the distance races, the University of North Florida track and field teams took home victories in 12 events at the Embry-Riddle Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
The women earned seven of the gold medals, led by senior Erin Nixon, who took first in the 800m (2:19.15) and the 1000m (2:57.61). The wins were Nixon's third and fourth in as many tries this year.
Freshman Elle Baker earned the first victory of her collegiate career, winning the mile in 5:08.74, just ahead of junior Meggie Emons (5:13.96). Emons grabbed a win of her own in the 5000m, with a time of 18:20.82.
Sophomore Brianna Frazier notched her second win of the season with a gold in the triple jump (11.47m), while Christina King took first in the pole vault at 3.65m, her best mark of the year. Junior Jaybria Calcote also clocked a 1:36.20 to take first in the 600m. It was her first career attempt at the event.
Meanwhile, the men grabbed five wins of their own. Sophomore Sean White led the way, taking home first-place finishes in both the 800m (1:58.90) and the 1000m (2:33.72). Senior Cameron Dickerson also grabbed the top spot in the 600m (1:20.59) with junior James Post (1:20.91) just behind him in second place.
Sophomore David Shepherd broke his own school record in the pole vault for the second time this season, taking the gold with a mark of 5.05m (16' 6.75"). The 4x800m relay team of Post, Taylor Sumagpang, Dickerson and Evan Rosenberg also led the pack with a time of 7:49.29.

The track and field teams are next in action on February 17-18, when they head to Johnson City, Tenn. for the Atlantic Sun Indoor Track Championships.
