Buerchner Named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week

MACON, Ga. – University of North Florida men's tennis' Moritz Buerchner was selected as the Atlantic Sun's Men's Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the league on Wednesday. It is the league's first set of weekly awards for the 2012 season.
It is the second-straight year in which Buerchner received the A-Sun's first Player of the Year award. It is also the second of his career.
The Haimhausen, Germany-native went 1-1 in both singles and doubles, helping UNF to a 1-1 record against nationally-ranked opponents to open the season on Jan. 14 and Jan. 16. He recorded wins in both singles and doubles during the Ospreys' victory against then-No. 71. Buerchner and partner Leonardo Nahar had an 8-2 win over Joe Mills and Patrick O'Keefe at No. 3 doubles. Buerchner, who went to three sets in his season-opening singles match at then-No. 44 Florida State, followed that up with a 6-3, 6-3 upset of No. 62 Nicholas Sayer as UNF captured the top four singles matches.
Buerchner and his teammates continue with the spring season on Saturday when they travel to Georgia Southern. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
