JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida women's soccer team fell to North Carolina State on Sunday afternoon, 3-0. It was the first time in four matches that the Ospreys have been held scoreless.
The Wolfpack opened the scoring early, as freshman Julia Sandridge found the back of the net in the 13th minute. After UNF goalkeeper Megan Dorsey punched away an NC State corner kick, Sandridge collected the rebound and delicately chipped a shot into the upper part of the goal from the top of the box.
The Ospreys were able to navigate the remainder of the first half without incident, holding NC State scoreless despite trailing in shots 10-3 at the break.
Shortly after the intermission, however, the Wolfpack used a quick brace from freshman Stephanie Bronson to all but secure a victory.
In the 65th minute, Bronson fielded a long pass from fellow freshman Shelli Spamer before taking a touch and poking a shot past Dorsey to double the NC State advantage. Just two minutes later, Bronson completed the scoring when she ran onto a cross from Tanya Cain and finished to the near post to put the Wolfpack up 3-0.
With the loss, UNF drops to 3-4-1 on the season. NC State improved to 7-1.
NC State outshot the Ospreys on the day, 21-9, but only held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. Dorsey recorded five saves on the day for UNF, while Kim Kern tallied three for the Wolfpack.
The Ospreys are next in action on Friday, Sept. 16 when they play a 7:30 match at UNC Wilmington. It will be UNF's seventh straight game away from home.
