Coach Byron Taylor leads the Ospreys to victory
O'Canada: Men's Basketball Tour - Day 3
8/7/2011 4:03:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The North Florida men's basketball team is participating in a three-game preseason tour in Canada from Aug. 4-10. The UNF athletic communications office will be posting a daily recap/blog of the team's adventures.
August 7 (Day 3 of Tour)
Today was a game day REMIX with UNF facing the Windsor Lancers for the second day in a row. Game time was a bit earlier (2 pm) to give us time to make the 3-4 hour drive over to St. Catharines after the game.
An earlier game tip-off meant a slightly earlier wake-up time but UNF didn't change the victorious pre-game meal making a return trip to Cora's for a second round of breakfast foods and plenty of fruit (see Day 2 recap for a photo of the pile of fruit).
Taking his turn as the sideline leader for game two was assistant coach Byron Taylor (Coach Driscoll decided to do something a little different with these tour games, giving each of the three full-time assistant coaches the opportunity to serve as the head coach for a game). Coach Taylor helped the team extend its win streak leading UNF to a 73-64 victory (see game story and boxscore below)
(Check out where Coach Driscoll watched the game from)
After the game, our travel party loaded the bus and made the approx. 220 mile (356 km) trek across the Ontario province toward our next competition destination in St. Catharines.
As tradition goes, the road victory for the Ospreys will also result in some more Big D (DESSERT) later on this trip.
Most of the guys took advantage of the free time on the bus ride by listening to music, watching movies, reading or just resting.
Tomorrow – UNF enjoys a day off from competition but filled with adventure with sightseeing trips planned for both Niagara Falls and the city of Toronto (I'm pretty excited about this because I haven't been to either and from what I've been told the Canada side of “The Falls” is pretty spectacular).
For all the followers on Twitter (@UNFOspreys), I plan to hopefully tweet a few updates and I'm also hoping to try my hand at some amateur video posts for the recap.
SWOOP (Eh)!!
The North Florida Ospreys earned a sweep of their two-game series against the University of Windsor after posting a 73-64 win Sunday afternoon at the St. Denis Athletic Centre.
UNF got a balanced attack in game two with four players netting double digits led by 12 points from Travis Wallace and Andy Diaz. Parker Smith chipped in 11 and Jerron Granberry added 10.
David Jeune just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds while Diaz pulled down 10 boards for his own double-double.
The Ospreys broke open a tightly contested game late in the second half with a 12-3 surge over the final three minutes of play.
