JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida head men's basketball coach Matthew Driscoll announced the signing of Florida native Hunter Williams to a national letter-of-intent to attend UNF and play basketball for the Ospreys this fall.
A 6-0, 165-lbs guard from Ocala, Fla., Williams joins the UNF program after playing his freshman season at the College of Central Florida.
“Hunter gives us another high character person with a tremendously competitive attitude,” said Driscoll. “He is definitely a player that will help take us to another level. He has the flexibility to play multiple guard positions with the ability to make 3's and free throws.”
Williams averaged 10.4 points and 3.7 assists per game in his debut season at CF, helping lead the Patriots to a 25-6 overall mark including a semifinal appearance at the Florida State Junior College tournament. He shot 39 percent from the three point line and was an 84 percent free throw shooter.
Prior to Central Florida, Williams was an all-area performer at Ocala's Forest High School averaging 18.5 points, 3.8 assists per game while hitting 43 percent from 3-point range. He helped guide FHS to a district championship and a berth in the regional semifinals during his senior season.
“I am excited to be coming to UNF,” said Williams. “I was impressed with Coach Driscoll's plan for the team and really liked the direction the program is moving. I am looking forward to being a part of the Osprey family and can't wait to get things started.”
Williams, who will be a sophomore this fall, joins UNF early signees Fred Landers and Jacoby Davis and redshirt transfer Travis Wallace in the newcomer class for the Ospreys this season.
