
Nixon Named to All-ASun Academic Team

MACON, Ga. -- Senior Erin Nixon was named to the Atlantic Sun Conference's inaugural Academic All-Conference Team, as announced on Thursday by the conference.
Nixon, an English major, carried a 3.62 GPA while also helping lead UNF to three team victories and a runner-up showing at the 2011 A-Sun Cross Country Championships. She ran a season-best 17:38.30 at the FLRunners.com Invitational and finished fourth at the Seminole Invitational, clocking a 17:54.62. The Ospreys won both meets.
At the A-Sun Championships, Nixon ran an 18:05.60 to finish ninth, one of three UNF runners in the top 10. She also finished 15th at the Panorama Farms Invitational, finishing the 6k-meter course in 22:07.81 and helping UNF to a fifth-place finish against some of the top teams on the east coast.
The Ospreys are currently ranked ninth in the South Region of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America. They join three other A-Sun teams on the 15-team poll, including Lipscomb (sixth), Belmont (11th) and Jacksonville (14th).
UNF will be competing at the NCAA South Region Championships this Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The women's race will begin at 11:15 a.m.
