Cross Country Teams Close Regular Season in Virginia and Orlando
10/13/2011 3:07:00 PM | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida cross country teams, both coming off team wins at the FLRunners.com Invitational, will head to meets in Charlottesville, Virginia and Orlando, Florida on Friday evening.
The women's team is currently ranked fourth in the South Region of the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America (USTFCCCA) weekly poll and will be splitting itself between the two venues. The Ospreys are the highest-ranking Atlantic Sun squad on the rankings and currently only trails Florida State, Florida and Vanderbilt.
A small portion of the team will be heading to Charlottesville for the Panorama Farms Invitational, while the remaining runners will run at the UCF Invitational in Orlando.
The Panorama Farms Invitational will welcome nine women's teams to Charlottesville and is hosted by Virginia, currently ranked 16th in the country. The men's race will begin at 4 p.m., but the women's 6K-meter race is set to start at 4:45.
The portion of the women's team that will not be traveling to Charlottesville will join the men's team, currently ranked 15th in the South Region by the USTFCCCA, as they travel to Orlando for the UCF Invitational.
The meet will play host to 17 teams and nearly 300 runners, both male and female. UNF will again find itself running against familiar conference foes such as Jacksonville and Stetson.
The race itself will be raising awareness for breast cancer research. A portion of each entry fee will be donated to research programs and all of the roughly 300 runners will be wearing pink shoelaces.
These meets are the Ospreys' final events before competing in the Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships on Oct. 29 in Nashville, Tenn.
