Men’s Cross Country Nabbed Fifth in Preseason Conference Poll

MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference released its 2010 A-Sun Men's Cross Country Coaches Preseason Poll on Wednesday and the University of North Florida was picked to finish fifth. In a vote by the league head coaches, the Ospreys collected a total of 84 points.

“I think the team is going to be anchored by Will Pearce,” head cross country coach Mark VanAlstyne said. “I believe we can improve on our third-place finish from last year. Our goal every year is to be competitive and win conference. I'm not going to bet against us, ever.”

North Florida turned in its best finish in school history last season when the squad placed third after being picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll. The Ospreys return every scorer from its 2009 team.

Defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion Kennesaw State enters 2010 as the favorites to repeat, collecting seven of the 11 possible first-place votes. USC Upstate and ETSU were tabbed to finish second and third, respectively.

The 2010 Atlantic Sun Championships, hosted by USC Upstate at Milliken Research Park, will be held on October 31. The course hosted the 1995 NCAA Division II National Championships and NCAA South Region Championships in 2004 and 2005.
