JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida volleyball team will host its second annual Osprey Summer Spike beach volleyball tournament on Saturday and Sunday, July 31-Aug. 1 The event will take place just south of the Jacksonville Beach Pier with registration beginning at 8 a.m. and play to start around 9 a.m.
Open to all ages, this event will be a sneak peek into the future of sand volleyball becoming a norm for the collegiate level and look to what this spring sport will bring to the UNF volleyball scene.
The men, women and co-ed divisions will be broken into four different skills sects: “Open,” “AA,” “A” and “B.” Saturday will feature the men's and women's matches while Sunday's matches will be the coed and juniors divisions. The juniors' division will feature 18-and-under, 16-and-under, 14-and-under and 12-and-under.
Kevin Campbell, head coach of the UNF volleyball team and overseer of the tournament, has implemented this fundraising event to help support the Ospreys volleyball team, as well as boost their connection with the community.
“Everyone is invited to come out and support the UNF volleyball team,” said Campbell. “Even if you are not participating in the tournament come out and enjoy the atmosphere, get to know the UNF players and the athletic department staff.”
Over the past several months Campbell has been working hard with different affiliations in Florida by either inviting teams or setting up advertisers. Sponsors for the 2010 event include The Lemon Bar, Sports Mania, Campeche Bay, Beaches Max Muscle and Jam Rock.
Public parking is available at Jax Beach Pier and is $5. If you arrive before 10 a.m. parking is free.
