JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida head women's basketball coach Mary Tappmeyer announces that Fabiola Josil will transfer from the University of Illinois. Josil will redshirt the 2010-11 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
“We are very excited to have Fab join our family,” said Tappmeyer. “She is a very dynamic and exciting guard to watch. Fab has the special ability to make everyone on the floor around her better. She was a proven scorer out of high school and we believe she has the ability to be a very special guard in the Atlantic Sun Conference.”
Josil, a 5-6 guard, played two season at the University of Illinois. As a true freshman she started in 25 of the 31 games in which she appeared, averaging 28.5 minutes per game. During her career, she appeared in 62 games for the Illini. During her sophomore season, Josil helped the Illini to the quarterfinals of the WNIT.
Prior to Illinois, the Coral Springs, Fla. native, earned First Team All-State honors in 2008 and was named the South Florida Sun-Sentinal Large School (6A-5A-4A) Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008. She was recognized as a Street & Smith Honorable Mention All-American and was a McDonald's All-America nominee.
During her high school career, Josil scored over 2,000 points, averaging 26 points, eight assists and nine steals per game during her senior season. Off the court, she was named the 2008 Scholar Athlete of the Year.
