Kelly Signs Free Agent Contract with Blue Jays
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Michael Kelly, pitcher for the University of North Florida baseball team, signed a free agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Kelly was one of the top pitchers for the Ospreys during the 2010 season.
Kelly finished the season with a team-best 4.65 earned run average. He struck out a team-high 79 batters in a season-best 91.0 innings. The Mayo, Fla. native led the team with 14 starts, including starts against No. 14 Ohio State and No. 27 Wichita State. He ranked in the top three for the Ospreys in opposing batting average, win-loss percentage, wins and strikeouts looking.
Kelly joins teammate Preston Hale as the only two players so far this season to sign professional contracts. Hale was selected in the 44th round of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. In 2010, he led the team in batting average, on-base percentage, hits, RBI, doubles, total bases and walks.
In addition, UNF signee and incoming freshman Tyler Marincov (Timber Creek HS / Orlando, Fla.) was drafted in the 48th round by the Detroit Tigers.
