JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's tennis team was ranked 68th in the final 2010 ITA Rankings. Sophomore Aline Berkenbrock and senior Raquel Castro teamed up to finish the season ranked 56th in doubles.
"The team played hard all season and worked to earn this ranking," said head coach Rodrigo Puebla. "One of our goals at the start of the season was to be nationally ranked and we succeeded in being ranked most of the season. Aline and Raquel had a great year and I'm proud of their efforts and how far they were able to move up in the rankings."
UNF finished the season with a 20-3 overall record and was 9-1 in the Atlantic Sun. The Ospreys won the A-Sun Conference Women's Tennis Championship to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in the team's first year of postseason eligibility. UNF fell to No. 15 Florida State in the opening round.
Berkenbrock was named the 2010 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year after posting a flawless record. She also earned a spot on the All-Tournament team. Castro was a second team All-Conference selection.
The pair teamed up for an 18-4 overall record and a perfect 10-0 record in the A-Sun at No. 1. The duo defeated Stetson's No. 48 team of Valentina Galbarinia and Carolina de los Santos twice during the season with the last win coming in the A-Sun semifinals. They also picked up a win over College of Charleston's No. 46 pair of Holly Dowse and Emma Hayman.
