Hale Named Academic All-American

TOWSON, Md. – The University of North Florida's Preston Hale was named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Baseball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Named to the Atlantic Sun all-conference first team as a junior, Hale is a criminal justice major with a 3.71 GPA. A four-year starter in the outfield, he leads North Florida with a .387 batting average. Hale, who already holds school records for career hits, doubles and total bases, has nine home runs with 58 runs batted in, both team highs. A starter in all 55 games, he has 20 doubles and has scored 53 runs. A two-time selection as Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, the Lakeland, Fla. native has led the Ospreys to a 29-26 record and a spot in the conference tournament. The Ospreys will play for the Atlantic Sun Tournament championship this weekend in Nashville, Tenn.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
