Ospreys Compete in 66th Pepsi Florida Relays This Weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's and women's track and field teams will split this weekend with a number of athletes competing in the 66th Pepsi Florida Relays on Friday, April 2 to Saturday, April 3, in Gainesville, Fla. The rest of the squad will travel south, to Daytona Beach for the Spike Classic.
Gates will open for the Florida Relays at the James G. Pressley Stadium at 9 a.m., events will begin at10 a.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children. Live results will also be available through www.halfmiletiming.com.
Last weekend the Ospreys competed in the Florida State Relays. Senior Elise Trexler, who stands 18th in the east half of the country in the high jump, scored a top mark of 1.70m at the meet.
Freshman James Post ran a season best 1:52.72 in the 800m beating his original time of 1:54.04. Post earned a fourth place finish in the 800m and took sixth in the 5000m with a time of 15:02.07 (second best time in the conference). Senior Sammy Palmer ran a season best time of 15:08.86, to cross the line eighth in the 5000m.
In the shot put, freshman Ashley Gonzalez finished eighth and recorded the fourth best distance in the conference (12.19m). Finishing in ninth, sophomore Kayla Mobley threw the shot put 12.10m.
Senior Ashton McGuire threw the javelin 38.97m for a sixth place finish. McGuire still leads the conference with her throw of 39.60m that came at the UNF Spring Break Invitational. Mobley finished in eighth place in the event with a season best 36.76m.
The Ospreys will send 11 to the Florida Relays on Friday and the rest of the squad will compete in the Spike Classic.
