JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men’s tennis team will host a pair of contests on Tuesday, March 9 at the UNF Tennis Complex beginning with Appalachian State at 8 a.m. The Ospreys will face Eastern Kentucky in the afternoon at 2 p.m.
UNF (8-4, 1-1 A-Sun) fell to Atlantic Sun foe Stetson in its last outing. Junior Hleb Maslau picked up a win in the No. 3 singles after battling the Hatters’ Didrik Sabakken Berg to three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Prior to Saturday’s match against the Hatters, the Ospreys picked up their A-Sun opener with a 7-0 sweep of Florida Gulf Coast.
Appalachian State (5-2) defeated Gardner-Webb, 4-3 in its last outing. The Mountaineer duo of Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs recently defeated South Carolina’s No. 89 pair of Diego Cubas and Alexander Kostanov.
EKU (7-5) was picked to win the Ohio Valley Conference entering in to the 2010 season. The Colonels’ Alex Das Izquierdo was picked as the OVC preseason player of the year. Joining him on the preseason all-conference team are teammates Hugo Klientovsky, Nik Schroeder and Parul Verma. EKU won the OVC regular season in 2009.
Following Tuesday’s matches the Ospreys will remain home for a pair of A-Sun contests. The team will host Belmont on Friday, March 12 at 2 p.m. and Lipscomb on Saturday, March 13 at 10 a.m.
