Dale shoots opening round 4-under
After capturing its own John Hayt Collegiate Invitational three days ago, the Osprey golfers own a two stroke lead after one round of the 18th Annual USF Invitational at Lake Jovita Golf Club in
UNF shot a 2-under-par 286 on the first day and leads three teams by two strokes, with Middle Tennessee State, Florida Southern College and Campbell all shooting even par on the day.
Six teams did not finish their rounds because of darkness and will finish up their first round's Saturday morning. The closest teams to the leaders to not finish were
Round two will begin Saturday with separate tee times at 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at the par-72, 7,226-yard North Course. The third and final round is on Sunday beginning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
In addition to the team lead, UNF sophomore Sean Dale sits in a three-way tie for first place after firing an opening round 68 to sit at 4-under. He is tied with
Senior J.C. Horne and sophomore Kevin Aylwin each pounding out even-par 72's on the opening day, while freshman Kevin Phelan shot a 74 (+2) and sophomore Joe Byun a 3-over 75. Byun is coming off the individual title at the John Hayt.
In addition to the host school, the
“Sean (Dale) played a very good round and as a team it is good to lead again,” said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. “Tomorrow we need to go and play in the morning and see if we can make a few more birdies.”
