Ospreys Earn Top Marks on Final Day of A-Sun Championships

JACKOSNVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's and women's track and field teams finished the final day of the 2010 Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships today in Johnson City, Tenn.
On the day, the women finished third with a score of 98 points for UNF's best finish since its third place finish in 2008.
Freshman Jasmine Jackson broke a school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.12; that was good enough for a fifth place finish. Senior sprinter Charisma Anderson also saw a fifth place finish in the 60m (7.77) dash and the 200m (25.32) dash. Her 200m time set a new UNF record.
In the middle distances sophomores Kayla Conrad and Brooke Baumann placed second (2:15.86) and eighth (2:20.38) in the 800m run, respectively. Conrad's second place finish gave her all-conference honors.
In the 5000m run Shelby Kittrell once again showed her dominance with a first place finish (17:15.09), helping the Ospreys add 10 points to their final score and earning her all-conference recognition.
The women progressed well through the relay events. The 4x400m relay team of Jaybria Calcote, Kayla Conrad, Charisma Anderson and SaLydia James took the conference title with a time of 3:51.61, setting a UNF school record and earning all-conference honors.
The distance medley relay team (Baumann, James, Conrad and Laura Ragland) ran a second place finishing time of 12:15.95 to earn all-conference.
The field events saw two first place finishes led by senior Elise Trexler on the high jump (1.68m) and Christina King on the pole vault with a school record height of 3.55m. Both earned all-conference honors.
Both freshmen Jennifer Smyth and Jasmine Jackson posted fifth (5.61m) and sixth place (5.38m) finishes respectively in the long jump.
On the men's side freshman James Post recorded the best finish for the men with a second place, all-conference finish in the 800m (1:53.61). Junior Will Pearce earned all-conference recognition for finishing third in the mile recording a personal best time of 4:08.55. Sophomore Johnathan Esteban recorded personal best times in his third and sixth place finishes in the 3000m and the 5000m, respectively. Esteban's finish in the 3000m earned him all-conference honors.
In the field events sophomore Noah Thompson recorded a height of 4.30m in the pole vault for a fifth place finish. Freshman Tomas Marentas scored three points for the Ospreys with his sixth place finish in the high jump (1.89m).
