UNF set 11 school records during the 2009 CCSA Championships
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team will participate in the 2010 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championship, which starts on Thursday, Feb. 18 and goes through Saturday, Feb. 20, in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Ospreys enter the event having won its last four meets. UNF defeated Daytona State College and Florida Atlantic in a double-dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 30. North Florida posted a pair of victories over North Carolina A&T on Friday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 7.
Last season the North Florida broke 11 school records during the CCSA Championships. The Ospreys set new records in the 100-yard freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 200 breaststroke, 200 individual medley, 400 individual medley, 400 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relay.
“Every year we have come to this championship we have broken school records and we will look to continue that trend this year,” head coach Beth Harrell stated. “It is a good tradition that you want to have. The girls are excited and ready to go and compete.”
The CCSA consists of men's and women's swimming and diving teams from Campbell, College of Charleston, Davidson, Florida A&M, Florida Gulf Coast, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Howard, North Carolina A&T, North Florida, Radford and VMI.
The Ospreys competed against a number of conference teams throughout the season, posting a 7-5 record against conference opponents. UNF opened the season with a victory over Florida A&M and followed that mean with a win against College of Charleston and Georgia Southern. North Florida posted a win against Campbell before falling in a meet against Florida Gulf Coast. UNF defeated Radford before struggling with illness and injuries in a quad-meet against Georgia Southern, FGCU and Gardner-Webb. The Ospreys rebound to finish strong with back-to-back victories over NCAT.
“I think we are going to have a good meet. It is some really good competition and I know that we will be battling hard throughout the whole week. The top five spots are up for grabs and will be a jostle each day.”
