JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida men's golf coach Scott Schroeder announced the signings of Joey Petronio and M.J. Maguire to national letters of intent to play golf for the Ospreys in the fall of 2011.
“This will be the best class of players that we have brought into the program,” said Schroeder. “These will be the players that we will be looking to keep the program competing at a high level over the next few years. I am looking forward to having both these young men become a part of the UNF golf family.”
A native of Orlando, Fla., Petronio attends Olympia High School and is currently ranked 159th in the country by Golfweek and 112th on the Junior Golf Scoreboard.
“Joey will be a great addition and a future representative of the program,” added Schroeder. “He qualified for the U.S. Juniors this summer and proved there that he can compete with the best players in the country.”
Maguire hails from St Petersburg, Fla., and attends St. Pete High School. He currently ranks 58th in the country by Golfweek and 73th on the Junior Golf Scoreboard.
“MJ is a young man that has played at a very high level of junior golf and owns a tremendous amount of national experience,” said Schroeder.
The UNF golf team recently completed its fall competition season and is currently on a break until their spring season opening event Jan. 31.
