Ospreys Set Records at Jimmy Carnes Invitational

Men's and Women's Results
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida men's and women's track and field teams picked up 10 top five finishes at the Third Annual Jimmy Carnes Invitational on Sunday to go along with four UNF school records broken.
The women had two first place finishes in the indoor Stephen O'Connell Center in
Sophomore Christina King broke UNF's indoor school record in the pole vault with a height of 3.52m, passing Anne Delbovo's 3.35m record which she set last season at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational. Kayla Mobley also broke a school record in the shot put with her distance of 11.96m which was good enough for an eighth-place finish against the other competitors.
Freshman Jennifer Smyth was one of the shining Ospreys that had top ten finishes with her fourth-place finish in the long jump (5.58m) and her ninth-place finish in the triple jump (11.38m), which turned out to be an Ospreys' school record in the triple jump. The previous record was 10.99m, set by Emily Kohler in 2008.
Freshman Shelby Kittrell was another standout for
Newcomer Jasmine Jackson scored a top five spot in the 55m hurdles where she crossed the line in 8.47, setting a UNF school record.
On the men's side junior Will Pearce picked up one of the Ospreys' three first-place finishes on the day. Pearce ran the mile for a personal best 4:10.35 to finish first out of the 51 competitors.
Freshman James Post stood out with his sixth-place finish in the mile (4:17.94). Sophomore Johnathan Esteban had a second-place finish in the 3000m (8:42.70) just finishing ahead of fifth-place runner junior Sammy Palmer (8:53.22).
The Ospreys will be back in action when they travel to Clemson, S.C for the indoor Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational, which will be on Feb. 12-13.
