JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – UNF assistant men’s basketball coach Jeremy Shyatt was like a proud parent last night when watching one of his former players, Eric Maynor, get drafted in the first round of the NBA Draft.
Maynor, Virginia Commonwealth’s all-time leading scorer, was selected 20th overall by the Utah Jazz.
“I am so proud of Eric. Eric is the definition of a student-athlete,” said Shyatt. “From his success on the court, to his success in the classroom, to his leadership in the locker room, Eric is a class act. The Utah Jazz will be gaining much more than just a basketball player, and Salt Lake City will instantly fall in love with his demeanor. The entire Maynor family is the best!”
A two-time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, Maynor is the first Ram in program history to be picked in the first round of the NBA Draft. He is VCU’s all-time leader in points (1,953) and assists (674). The Raeford, N.C., native led the Rams to three straight CAA regular season titles, two CAA tournament crowns and two NCAA Tournaments over his four years in Richmond.
