JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team is hosting “Swoop with the Swim Team” on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 5-7 p.m. at the Chick-fil-A in the St. Johns Town Center.
The UNF swimming and diving team will have a table set up inside the Chick-fil-A. The team is asking that when a customer purchases a meal that the patron place the receipt in a box set up on the table. At the end of the night, the box will be emptied and the receipts totaled. Chick-fil-A will make a donation to the swimming and diving team in the amount of 20-percent of the receipt total.
“All we are asking is that fans come out to Chick-fil-A and buy food like they typically would, and give us the receipt. It's that easy,” sophomore swimmer Taylor Crosby expressed. “It doesn't cost anyone any extra money because Chick-fil-A is doing all of the donating.”
“The swim team came up with this idea because we are looking to get more involved in the community and among our fellow students. We are not only doing fundraisers like this, but also volunteering as well.”
The swimming and diving team will be volunteering on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Planetfest, a music festival staged yearly by WPLA Planet Radio 107.3 in Jacksonville at Metropolitan Park. UNF will be working beverage tents and all tips and income raised goes to First Coast No More Homeless Pets.
The mission of First Coast No More Homeless Pets (FCNMHP) is to eliminate the killing of dogs and cats in our community through free and low-cost spay and neuter programs. Spay and Neuter Programs are the only proven method for controlling the pet overpopulation crisis. As more surgeries occur, the shelter and euthanasia rates decrease. FCNMHP has a truly exceptional plan to end the needless killing of adoptable pets. They are committed to reaching those who need assistance.
