Ospreys still within striking distance of top five
UNF shot an 8-over 296 on day two but sit just one stroke out of seventh and five out of fifth. The Ospreys are +13 (589) through the first two rounds. Augusta State leads the tournament at 13-under (563) and is the only team under par.
The third and final round of the 54-hole tournament is Monday, Oct. 12.
The tournament, hosted by Atlantic Sun foe Mercer, is played at the Brickyard at Riverside Golf Club. The Brickyard club is playing a traditional par-72 this year, a shift from last year's par-70 format, and features 18 holes played each day. The course has also been extended slightly to a distance of 7,175 yards.
UNF sophomore Sean Dale, the 15th-ranked golfer in the country, leads the way for the Ospreys and is tied for 21st at 1-over (145). Senior J.C. Horne and freshman Kevin Phelan are tied for 35th at plus-3 (147). Junior Chris Kennedy is at 7-over (tied for 52nd, 151), while senior Jordan Gibb is tied for 64th at 9-over (153).
“We played real poor on the front nine today.” said UNF golf coach Scott Schroeder. “The guys did a nice job of competing on the back nine to bring it back some. If we play well tomorrow we can still have a nice finish.”
A total of 15 teams are participating in the 54-hole tournament, including 10 of Golfweek's top 54 tams in the nation. The field includes: North Florida, Mercer, No. 29 Augusta State, No. 24 Chattanooga,
